Garcinia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Clusiaceae, containing over 250 species of trees and shrubs, primarily found in tropical regions. Many Garcinia species are known for their edible fruits, some of which are used in traditional medicine and cuisine. One well-known species is Garcinia kola, commonly called bitter kola, which is used in West African traditional medicine for various ailments. Another, Garcinia gummi-gutta, is known for its fruit rind, which contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), a compound sometimes used in weight loss supplements. Traditional Medicine: Many Garcinia species have a long history of use in traditional medicine systems around the world.
